James A. Schmidt, 70, of Jacksonville, FL, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 9, 2006. There will be a memorial service for Mr. James A. Schmidt in Atlanta on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at H. M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill at 4 PM. The family will receive friends at H. M. Patterson & Son from 3-4 PM. A native of Americus, GA, Mr. Schmidt grew up on the family farm, Hillcrest Dairy in Sumter County. Growing up, he and his family attended the First Baptist Church of Americus. Mr. Schmidt graduated from Americus High School in 1953, and he was a football letterman. An Eagle Scout, Mr. Schmidt was active with the Boy Scouts his entire life. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech, and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Mr. Schmidt was a veteran of the US Army. He was employed for 23 years with GE, and he also was a licensed real estate agent for over 30 years. Mr. Schmidt was a resident of Jacksonville, FL for over 20 years, and was a avid sailor, earning his yachting license. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, and attended Beach United Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughter: Sharon Hart and her husband Jason, Smyrna, GA; 2 step-daughters: Christa Anderson, Atlanta, Dee Anderson O'Connor and her husband Mike, Savannah,; 3 grandchildren: Benjamin Hart, Robert Hart, and Virginia Hart, all of Smyrna; 2 sisters, including his twin: Jean Schmidt Bowen and her husband Dr. John M., Athens, GA, Mary Ann Schmidt Williams and her husband John C., Pearson, GA; a brother-in-law: Luther F.
