BSA Troop 21

Trip to USS Alabama

December, 2010

The Boys Scouts Troop 21 of Americus recently travelled to Mobile, Ala., and Pensacola, Fla., and took their Americus Times-Recorder with them Shown on the deck of the USS Alabama from left, front row are Jacob Dillard, Colin Landers, Hoyt Gurley and Jake Coptias; middle row, Jody Dillard, Will Meadows, Keith Landers, John Barrett and Troop 21 Scout Master Tommy McCurley; back row, Mike Gurley, Bill Meadows and Sanford McCurley. While in Mobile, they toured the USS Alabama which was involved in action during World War II. They also were able to spend the night on the decommissioned ship in the same bunks as the original sailors did many years ago. The Scouts then travelled to Pensacola and toured the Air Museum at the Pensacola Naval Station. Both locations proved to be very informative for the scouts from Americus.
